The Subsidized Housing department at DDRC manages 177 Housing Choice Vouchers from the Colorado Division of Housing, and 48 of those are for Denver County residents with an intellectual or developmental disability. Five of the 48 Denver County residents are in the Homeownership Voucher Program, and 43 are part of the rental voucher program.
This department offers tenants person-centered support through housing searches, voucher issuance, guidance through the HUD paperwork process, Housing Quality Standards inspections, navigation of landlord/tenant relationships, rental and homeownership education, access to necessary resources to improve a tenant's quality of life, and other advocacy support. In addition to supportive services, this DDRC department also collaborates with community partners to serve individuals in the area with an intellectual or developmental disability experiencing a crisis situation, waiting for services, or experiencing homelessness.
Thriving in the Neighborhood is a new program in this department to offer additional wrap-around services to Denver County residents. The program supports individuals and their families with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in Denver County with funds to cover emergency housing costs, a person-centered housing map, and additional funds to reduce isolation in a current housing crisis. Applicants can complete a customized Thriving in the Neighborhood (TIN) plan for their individual needs and will receive a response within 24 hours.
This Housing Choice Voucher program at the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center continued to see many tenants struggle to maintain stable housing in the last year. With the rising rent costs across the Denver Metro area, many tenants are being displaced to unfamiliar neighborhoods and they have to pay moving expenses far beyond what they can afford. This funding will allow the tenant to create a plan to describe the neighborhood they want to live in and how they will get there. They will also create a sustainability plan to maintain the thriving situation.
