Calligraphy with a Cause
Shaochen’s journey with DDRC has not only transformed her business, Monstera Gold, LLC, but has also deepened her personal connection to the community. As a talented calligrapher, she has discovered innovative ways to blend her artistic skills with meaningful outreach, fostering connections that extend beyond the ink.
Traditionally, her work involves on-site activations and live calligraphy for corporate clients. However, her experience with DDRC introduced her to the potential of in-studio personalization. Shaochen crafted specialty luggage tags for the 2024 DDRC golf tournament. “Working with DDRC opened my eyes to more ways to work with nonprofits and corporations,” she shared. “I really enjoyed doing the in-studio personalization like I did for DDRC, and I’m starting to offer this option to other businesses as well!” This pivot not only allows her to reach a broader audience but also enhances the personal touch that is so vital in her craft.
Shaochen’s relationship with DDRC goes beyond professional endeavors; it is deeply rooted in her family’s experiences. Her son, who is nearly two years old, has benefitted immensely from DDRC’s Early Intervention Program for delayed gross motor skills. “We started the program when he was around 16 months old and just starting to take his first independent steps,” she recounted. “In less than 3 months, he graduated from the program and was running around with the rest of his peers!”
For Shaochen, the support provided by DDRC was crucial in ensuring her son could thrive alongside his friends at daycare. The program’s approach, which included home visits and support for caregivers, made a significant difference in their lives. “It was important to us that he was able to keep up with his friends and activities at school and not feel left behind, and DDRC helped us achieve that,” she explained.
The partnership with DDRC has not only enhanced Shaochen’s business acumen but has also brought her a profound sense of fulfillment. “One of my favorite things about being a calligrapher is that every piece is unique and irreplicable,” she said. In a digital age where mass production often overshadows individual artistry, Shaochen values the personal connection that her work fosters. Sharing her talent with guests supporting DDRC’s mission adds another layer of meaning to her craft. “Being able to make them feel special was extra rewarding!” she expressed. Each personalized piece serves as a reminder of the unique stories and journeys of those involved in DDRC, connecting artistry with advocacy.
Shaochen’s journey with DDRC is a testament to the power of collaboration between businesses and nonprofits. Through her innovative approach to calligraphy and her personal experiences as a mother, she is not only enriching her own life and business but is also making a positive impact on the community. As Monstera Gold, LLC continues to evolve, we hope Shaochen’s commitment to supporting DDRC will undoubtedly inspire others to explore the profound connections that can be formed through shared missions and creativity.
