DDRC’s Residential Services for Adults With IDD

Host Homes
Host homes provide a welcoming environment where individuals live with a dedicated provider who offers daily care and encouragement. This setup fosters independence while ensuring personalized support for each person’s unique needs. It’s a place where meaningful relationships grow, and individuals can feel truly at home.

Family Caregiver
Caring for a loved one is deeply personal, and we believe families should have the resources to do it well. Our Family Caregiver Program provides training and financial support for eligible family members who want to take on a caregiving role. This allows individuals to receive care in a familiar setting while strengthening their family bonds.

Independent Living
For those ready to take the next step toward independence, our supported living program offers a balance of freedom and assistance. Residents live in their own apartments while receiving guidance on daily tasks, personal growth, and community involvement. With the right support, individuals can gain confidence and lead fulfilling lives.

Group Homes
Our group homes provide a safe, stable environment where adults with IDD can live with peers while receiving the support they need. Each home is designed to encourage personal growth while fostering friendships and connections. Trained staff members will also be on-site to make sure residents feel empowered, respected, and comfortable in their daily lives.

Day Programs
A fulfilling life includes engaging activities, social connections, and opportunities for learning. Our day programs offer a mix of community outings, skill-building exercises, and recreational experiences tailored to individual interests. These programs provide structure, enrichment, and a strong sense of belonging.
Residential Services for Adults with IDD at DDRC FAQs
What residential options does DDRC offer for adults with IDD?
DDRC offers four residential options to fit different needs and goals: Host Homes, where an individual lives with a trained and dedicated provider; the Family Caregiver Program, which supports eligible family members in a paid caregiving role; Independent Living, for those ready to live in their own apartment with some guided support; and Group Homes, where individuals live alongside peers in a staffed, community-style setting. Together, these options make up a full continuum of residential services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
How do I know which residential option is the right fit?
The right fit depends on the individual’s support needs, personal goals, and daily life preferences. DDRC’s residential team works closely with individuals, families, and case managers to understand what matters most, whether that’s more independence, a family-like home environment, or consistent on-site support. We’re happy to talk through the options and help you find the best match.
Does someone need to be on a waiver to access residential services?
Most of DDRC’s residential services are funded through Colorado’s Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waivers. If you’re not sure whether your loved one is eligible or what funding options are available, DDRC can help you navigate that process. Our team is experienced in helping families understand waivers and access the supports they need.
What is the Family Caregiver Program, and can any family member apply?
The Family Caregiver Program allows eligible family members to receive training and financial compensation for providing residential care to their loved one with IDD. Not all family members qualify; there are specific eligibility criteria tied to the individual’s waiver and the family member’s relationship to them. DDRC can walk you through the requirements and help determine whether this option is a good fit for your family.
What kind of support do residents receive in a DDRC group home or host home?
Both group homes and host homes are staffed or operated by trained providers who support residents with daily living activities, community participation, personal growth, and overall well-being. The level of support is tailored to each person’s Individual Support Plan (ISP), so residents receive what they need.
