Therapeutic Recreation for People with Disabilities

Overview

Through Therapeutic Recreation (TR), we provide activities of recreation for people with disabilities, helping them stay active, build social connections, and develop new skills – DDRC’s TR program is available to those individuals living in Jefferson County with an IDD. Every month, enrolled participants receive a newsletter featuring 20-25 different activities, allowing them to choose experiences that match their interests and personal goals.

Activities of recreation for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are designed to be engaging and inclusive, with options for small group settings (4-6 participants), larger gatherings (10-20 participants), and limited one-on-one participation. Our well-trained recreation specialists and therapists provide supervision and support, creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Participants can choose therapeutic recreation services that enhance their lifestyle, reinforce skill development, and increase community awareness.

From year-round sports training and competitions, including Special Olympics and community unified leagues, to social events, creative arts, and outdoor adventures, DDRC’s Therapeutic Recreation services give individuals with IDD individuals the chance to stay physically active, socially engaged, and emotionally fulfilled—all while having fun.
