Special Olympics

This world acclaimed program provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of well-coached, Olympic-type events. It's unique in that athletes compete according to ability, gender and age. TLC offers bowling, basketball, bocce ball, golf, alpine skiing, aquatics, volleyball, softball and tennis. The Special Olympics Unified Sports Program is another option and consists of five team sports with each competing team having an equal number of athletes with developmental disabilities and athletes without disabilities. In 2014, the Recreation unified softball team, the DDRC Landcruisers, represented Colorado and brought back the Gold!

Special Olympics sports are transformative experiences that bring out pride, courage and joy in athletes – while inviting families and entire communities to join in the celebration. The Special Olympics sports experience has always been rooted in a radical notion: That every person has the capacity to be an Olympian, and that human greatness is defined more by the spirit than the body. If you know someone that may be interested or you are interested in training for the Special Olympics on one of our teams. please contact Cathe Schreck at 720.544.8150.
