Psychiatric Services

Overview

At DDRC, we understand that mental health is a vital part of overall well-being. Our psychiatric services are designed to provide individuals ages 14 and up with a thorough, compassionate, and personalized approach to mental health care whose primary diagnosis is related to their intellectual and developmental disability. Through psychiatric assessments, medication reviews, and coordination of care, we work closely with each person and their family to create a treatment plan that’s as unique as they are. Our goal is to offer support, guidance, and strategies that help individuals manage and improve their mental health, all while maintaining their dignity and independence.

How to Get Started

The process of accessing psychiatric services with our mental health team starts with a comprehensive evaluation. Initially, our team conducts an intake interview to gather information from caregivers, teachers, and others involved in the individual’s life. We then observe the individual in their natural environment to better understand their behavior and needs. From there, we provide detailed treatment recommendations and continue offering follow-up support through scheduled sessions to ensure that caregivers and individuals have the tools they need to succeed.

Developmental and Intellectual Disability Psychiatry FAQs

What should I expect during my first appointment?

During your first appointment, our team will conduct a thorough intake assessment, which includes gathering information about the individual’s mental health history and current concerns. This helps us determine the most appropriate treatment plan moving forward and ensures we have a full understanding of the situation.

Are psychiatric services covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover psychiatric services. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider for specific coverage details, and we can also assist with verifying benefits and help guide you through the process.

How long does it take to see progress with psychiatric treatment?

Progress can vary depending on the individual’s needs and the complexity of the challenges being addressed. Some individuals may see improvements in a few weeks, while others may require longer-term care. Regular follow-up appointments help ensure that treatment remains effective, and adjustments can be made as needed.
