A Dream Come True
Steve Stunkard is starting his 12th season with the Colorado Rockies. Steve isn’t playing for the Rockies but according him the next best thing is being a Rockie gate stamper. Steve who is the ultimate sports fan loves greeting Rockies fans at the Sandlot door on game days.
How did this dream come true for an individual diagnosed at 18 months of age with a disability and given very little chance of developing any skills? Steve has been blessed with a wonderful involved family. Steve’s mother, Myrna O’Brien and father, Jack Stunkard credits DDRC services with Steve’s progress and achievements. A supportive family and DDRC/AVS made for a winning team in making Steve’s dream come true.
A Colorado Rockies Job Fair was held in March, 1996. Steve was part of the Working Partners Grant and Donna Nash, his DDRC/AVS Employment Consultant, took him to investigate possible job opportunities. That was the beginning of Steve’s dream job. On Steve’s tenth anniversary with the Rockies, he was recognized for his ten years of service and his great attendance with a bat signed by all the Rockies players. “We are thrilled to have Steve as a part of the Rockies Organization”, said the Rockies representative.
